Authorities Probe Mass Killing After Bodies Found in Los Rios

(MENAFN) Eight bodies were found inside jute sacks abandoned along a roadside in Ecuador’s coastal Los Ríos province, according to reports from prosecutors on Wednesday.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said on social media platform X that the remains were discovered in the Las Cañitas area along the Jujan–Babahoyo road, with police and prosecutors sent to secure and investigate the scene.

According to reports, the alert was first received through the ECU-911 emergency system, prompting the deployment of specialized police units to the location.

Preliminary findings suggest the bodies had been dumped at the site, and investigators also reportedly found a sign placed on top of the sacks containing messages believed to be linked to organized criminal groups.

Authorities are prioritizing the identification of the victims and are examining whether the remains belong to eight young people aged between 15 and 31 who were reported missing on May 31 in Milagro, located in Guayas province.
